Our collaboration
René Magritte (1898 – 1967) was a Belgian Surrealist artist. He became well known for creating a number of witty and thought-provoking images. Often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, his work is known for challenging observers’ preconditioned perceptions of reality. As one of the most famous artists of the 20th century, Magritte’s body of work heavily influenced pop and contemporary artists to this day.
When the opportunity to collaborate with the Fondation Magritte presented itself, we were honored to pay tribute to the father of Belgian Surrealism and to put a new spin to his art through the medium of skateboards. THE SKATEROOM is grateful to present three editions of Magritte’s recognizable oeuvre: Décalcomanie, L’empire des lumières, and Le fils de l’homme.
“We are delighted and humbled to launch this 100% Belgian collaboration with the Fondation Magritte. We could not think of a better way to promote a new reality through the eyes of this true master of Surrealism… In the words of René himself: ‘Ceci n’est pas un skateboard!’.” – Charles-Antoine Bodson, Founder of THE SKATEROOM
THE SKATEROOM Mission
We make a commitment to the social projects we fund: at least 10% of our revenue goes directly to them. Working with our partners, we help empower at-risk youth, build new skateparks and develop education facilities & resource programs. Since 2014, we have generated over $1,500,000 to fund over 40 projects around the world. As a proudly certified B-Corp, we are committed to growing that impact every day.
