David CARSON

Collage, disruption, and movement reimagined on skate decks

THE SKATEROOM presents a new collection with American artist David Carson, a figure whose radical visual language reshaped contemporary graphic design. Known for dismantling traditional typography and embracing fragmentation, texture, and intuition, Carson treats composition as an act of discovery rather than control.

This collection translates that restless energy into a new physical format: skate decks and collectible objects designed to live in motion, on walls, and in everyday life.

Translating Carson’s collage language to skate decks

Carson’s work resists hierarchy. Words become images, textures interrupt meaning, and layers collide into visual rhythm. On skate decks, this approach finds a natural counterpart.

Rather than reproducing static prints, the decks function as sculptural compositions where fragmentation and motion coexist. In addition, the collection expands Carson’s visual universe across silk scarves and woven blankets.

Collaboration with Novembre Magazine & Dan Hoy

Two artworks from the collection appear in the 17th issue of Novembre Magazine, accompanied by poetry by Dan Hoy.

Presented with the magazine’s support, this dialogue between visual fragmentation and poetic language extends Carson’s ethos: meaning emerges through juxtaposition, interruption, and rhythm.

A practice built on experimentation

Since the early 1990s, Carson has challenged how we read and interpret visual information. His work invites viewers to slow down, decode, and experience design emotionally rather than logically. In this collection, that philosophy moves beyond the page into objects that occupy space, texture, and movement.
