“I love what THE SKATEROOM has created for kids all over the world who normally would never have access to learning how to skateboard. And I love the concept of decks becoming affordable works of art, giving people an opportunity to collect art that would normally be out of their range just seems like a win-win situation.”
— Cindy Sherman
A Continuing Collaboration Through the Lens of the Untitled Film Stills
For our third collaboration with Cindy Sherman, THE SKATEROOM returns to one of the most iconic photographic series in contemporary art history: Untitled Film Stills.
This new release presents two limited edition triptychs, Untitled Film Still #16 and Untitled Film Still #17, each produced in editions of 100 and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
Since the late 1970s, Sherman’s Untitled Film Stills have shaped the visual language of contemporary photography. Borrowing from the aesthetics of cinema, advertising, and popular culture, the works blur the line between fiction and reality, performance and identity. Sherman becomes both subject and director, constructing characters that feel strangely familiar while remaining impossible to fully define.
More than four decades later, the series continues to resonate with remarkable relevance. The images feel timeless: suspended moments that invite viewers to project their own narratives onto them. Presented across skateboard triptychs, these compositions take on a new physicality, transforming cinematic fragments into sculptural objects.
Our relationship with Cindy Sherman has developed over several years and multiple collections. Each collaboration has explored different ways of translating her work into editioned objects while remaining faithful to the tension, ambiguity, and visual precision that define her practice. This third release continues that dialogue.
The format itself feels particularly fitting. Skateboards exist somewhere between image and object, culture and display, movement and stillness. In many ways, they mirror the duality at the heart of Sherman’s work: familiar yet elusive, accessible yet deeply layered.
Each triptych is produced as a limited edition of 100 and includes a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
“Considering what’s happening to the innocents of the world, it’s so great to know that THE SKATEROOM helps foster education & empowerment to the young people who need it most." — Cindy Sherman.
