Portrait of Beni BISCHOF

About the Artist

Portrait of Beni BISCHOF

Beni Bischof (born 1976 in Widnau, Switzerland) is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Swiss art. Known for his irreverent humour, vibrant compositions, and fearless experimentation, his work explores the overwhelming visual landscape of modern life through collage, painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and publishing.

Drawing inspiration from mass media, advertising, magazines, internet culture, and art history, Bischof creates works that blur the boundaries between high and low culture. His compositions often combine humour with discomfort, inviting viewers to question the images and narratives that surround them every day. Rich in visual references and layered meaning, his practice embraces contradiction rather than certainty, offering open-ended works that reward close attention.

Since graduating from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Bischof has exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, and institutions across Europe, North America, and Asia. Alongside his studio practice, he has produced numerous artist books and independent publications that extend his ongoing exploration of image-making and visual culture.

Working across a wide range of media, Beni Bischof continues to challenge conventional ideas of taste, beauty, and artistic hierarchy, creating work that is at once playful, provocative, and unmistakably his own.
