John BALDESSARI

"I will not make any more boring art."

—John Baldessari

A Tribute to the Godfather of Conceptual Art

THE SKATEROOM is proud to collaborate with the John Baldessari Family Foundation and the John Baldessari Estate—on a series of skate decks based on works by John Baldessari (1931 - 2020).

A pioneer of appropriation and reinvention, Baldessari turned everyday imagery into high-concept thought pieces. His interventions—covering faces with colorful shapes, juxtaposing incongruous elements, inserting irony into the visual—are instantly recognizable and wildly influential.

This collection is an ode to his genius and mischief. It's filled with oddball compositions, serious absurdities, and shapes that shouldn’t be where they are—but somehow are. We turned four of his iconic works into limited edition skate decks.

Hang them. Ride them. Stare at them and wonder what the hell they mean. Baldessari would approve.

No More Boring Walls

John Baldessari didn’t just make art—he rewired how we see. In a world choking on images, he asked us to stop scrolling, look closer, and find meaning in the absurd. Or at least laugh.

Four of his most iconic works were turned into skate decks. Same spirit, different medium. They’re made for your wall, the streets, or wherever you think art belongs.

We’re thrilled to release this collection in partnership with Bozar, to celebrate their major exhibition on John Baldessari’s groundbreaking work. The decks will also be available at Bozar during the show—because where better to challenge the boundaries of art than in a museum and with a skateboard?

And as always, part of every sale supports social impact projects through THE SKATEROOM’s business model. So your wall gets smarter—and the world, a little better.
