Celebrating Edvard Munch’s Legacy Through His Most Iconic Works
Few artists have given shape to what we struggle to say out loud. Edvard Munch didn’t paint “pretty pictures”—he painted nerves, love, jealousy, illness, desire, and the quiet dread that sometimes hums beneath everyday life. More than a century later, his images still feel strangely current, like they were made for modern minds.
Today, we’re proud to announce THE SKATEROOM x Munchmuseet: a collection created in collaboration with MUNCH (Munchmuseet) in Oslo, home to the world’s most extensive collection of Munch’s work.
This launch honors an artist who helped redefine modern art—and who, through a handful of unforgettable motifs, became a global visual language.
From Norway, with love
Munch’s influence runs deep. He is widely recognized as a foundational figure for modernism and a major influence on Expressionism—an artist who made inner life (not outer appearances) the main event.
His work doesn’t just depict emotion; it stages it, through vibrating color, stark silhouettes, and compositions that feel like memories you didn’t know you had.
Partnering with MUNCH in Oslo matters because this is where Munch’s legacy is actively cared for, studied, and shared. The museum’s new building opened to the public in 2021, expanding access to an extraordinary collection and programming.
This collaboration is our way of translating that legacy into a new, collectible format—one that lives in homes, studios, and spaces where art is part of daily life (not just behind glass).

The beating heart of the legacy: Munch’s most iconic artworks
The Scream: the image that became an alarm bell for the modern age
There are few artworks as universally recognized as The Scream—and the story behind it is just as compelling. Munch made four colorful versions of the motif (two painted, two drawn), and MUNCH holds multiple versions in its collection; in Oslo, versions are rotated for conservation, with at least one on view.
It’s often discussed as a symbol of anxiety, but it’s also a masterclass in visual compression: landscape, sensation, and psychology all collapsing into a single, unforgettable figure.
From museum wall to collectible edition: what this collection stands for.
At THE SKATEROOM, we’re drawn to artists who changed visual culture—and who still speak directly to the present. Munch does exactly that. This collection is:
- A tribute to an uncompromising artist who made honesty a style.
- A focus on the works that shaped his global legacy, led by the most iconic motifs.
- A collaboration rooted in stewardship, made with MUNCH—one of the key institutions preserving and presenting Munch’s work.
