Decks for Ukrainian NGO "Street Cultures Development Center"

THE SKATEROOM donated skate decks to the grassroots organization established in 2021, based in the town of Okhtyrka, located in northeastern Ukraine, just 40 km from the border with Russia.

The NGO was born out of the passion of local youth inspired by various street cultures such as skateboarding, DJing, and graffiti.

Everything started with small creative initiatives organized internally — like local graffiti jams or skate contests in the city park.
These were the first steps in their journey, showing local teens that they are part of a global culture, and that being yourself doesn't depend on how big or famous your city is.

Then came the full-scale invasion in 2022. The town was heavily bombed and became a site of active battles. Their team shifted all efforts to support people in need: distributing food and medicine, sewing and assembling first-aid kits, and using every skill they had to help the city and its residents hold on.
Some of the team members joined the army. Sadly, some are no longer with us. Many lost friends and loved ones. But they continued their work to ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain — that their ideas would live on.

In 2023, after the Russian army was pushed out of Sumy and Kharkiv regions, they returned to their core mission — to give young people who stayed or came back a sense of hope, and to support them through culture and sport, even during war. The first step was to rebuild the city’s old wooden skatepark — a place that shaped an entire generation of skaters.

In May 2025, the NGO proudly presents the trailer for the documentary film PRYZEMLENNYA, a story about the strength of community, creativity, and resilience of Okhtyrka’s youth — a city that lives and creates in the shadow of war
