Women Artists on Skateboards

Our three most recent collaborators all happen to be phenomenal women in art and entertainment. Mickalene THOMAS’s collection was a celebration of female strength, Cindy SHERMAN experimented with how women are perceived in society, while Charlotte DE WITTE channeled the creativity of a techno DJ, into a brand new medium. All of this to say that women tell incredible stories with their art and we love to carry those stories further, translating them into bespoke collections of skateboard art editions.

If you enjoyed these drops as much as we did, here are 10 other artists from within THE SKATEROOM’s oeuvre, whose work inspires, provokes and takes us to new visual heights.

Inès LONGEVIAL

The dreamy portraits of Inès LONGEVIAL capture a certain sensitivity, creating a gentle feeling of intimacy with their subjects. The French artist focuses on depictions of the human body, bathed in subtle pastel hues. We collaborated with LONGEVIAL on a special collection, exhibited exclusively at Hotel de Crillon in Paris to coincide with the 2024 Olympics.

Claudia COMTE

Swiss artist Claudia COMTE uses geometric structures and biomorphic forms to comment on the most pressing global issues. Her style is delicate, clean and full of symbolism. Our collaboration draws from comic books and desert motifs to shine light on the ecological crisis, communicating a lot even with the most minimalist aesthetic.

Louise BOURGEOIS

Louise BOURGEOIS used to deconstruct emotions, fears and childhood traumas, exploring the themes of family, memory and femininity within her multi-dimensional works. The visuals portrayed on her THE SKATEROOM editions are captivating, often chilling and, always iconically distinctive.

John YUYI

For John YUYI, the body is a canvas and the city is its vibrant landscape. Based between New York and Taipei, she collects impressions from everyday life and turns them into thought-provoking art of many forms. For her skateboard art collection, she explored the body, its impulses and placed them within a dazzling urban context.

MAK2 is a conceptual artist who channels philosophy, art history, technology and socio-politics into work which takes on contemporary issues. Although the subjects she tackles are often heavy, the delivery is light, playful and composed of various creative techniques. In her recent collection with THE SKATEROOM, the flowery poolside landscape is inspired by The Sims and charms sweetly with its rich color palette.

Michèle LAMY

One of the leading feminist voices of the art world, Judy CHICAGO’s art has been inspiring and empowering generations. Her fascination with the “stereotypical” woman led to a multitude of artworks and installations which blurred the lines of gender while also speaking uniquely to the female experience.

Jenny HOLZER

Jenny HOLZER’s art is bold and unafraid to take on the most burning socio-political issues. In our sold-out collection of skateboard art editions she paid an homage to AIDS victims of 80’s New York City. She also commented on the former US political presidency with the words IMPEACH written against striking textures.

Anastasia BAY

The sold-out collection by Brussels-based artist Anastasia BAY featured abstract shapes, hands and earthy colors. Her surrealist take on portraiture is both warm and immersive, making it impossible to look away.

Coco CAPITAN’s artworks are conceptual, poetic and emotionally charged. With strong ties to the world’s leading fashion houses, as well as a diverse international background in both editorial and fine art, she experiments with different forms of expression, stretching the boundaries of creativity and constantly surprising.
