Scarlett ROUGE – LAMYLAND
Currently living in Los Angeles, Scarlett Rouge has mostly split her time between California and Paris. She completed her BFA in 2002 at Calarts as a photography major. After deciding it was too “sunless in the darkroom” she switched to painting; later completing her studio studies in installation art. Scarlett Rouge’s interdisciplinary practice echoes her nomadic life– influenced by mythos, geographical settings, and navigating between cultures. A disciple of ‘art as the new religious movement’ she infuses her distinct playfulness across her artistic expressions. Scarlett ROUGE is a member of LAMYLAND.
The infamous LAMYLAND collective was formed by the legendary Michèle LAMY, internationally renowned creative hyphenate, and co-founding Partner & Executive Manager of Art/Furniture Owenscorp. The collective comprises the creative genius of Giovanni Leonardo BASSAN, EPHEMERISM, Marc LESCHELIER, Scarlett ROUGE, Connor TINGLEY and Brandon WEN. LAMYLAND were a key part of the creative engine behind THE SKATEROOM’s first collective show, WHAT ARE WE SKATING FOR?, which was inspired by Michèle LAMY’s model of mixing street culture with the codes of fashion and art, becoming a manifesto to celebrate the world of skateboarding and its universal facets.
“I grew up on La Place des Skaters in Lyon, France. Not really a skater myself, I tried— too many broken ankles. But when I was lost in this new city, this is where I found my friends, my love, a community that embraced me; from there I created a new sense of myself that is still very close to my heart. I am very excited to be participating in expanding this culture and community with THE SKATEROOM. I know they are creating havens for other young girls, and boys, to gather and share, and dream of their futures. Thank you.” – Scarlett ROUGE
20% of the revenue of this collaboration facilitated the construction of a skatepark for at-risk youth in Tameslouht, Morocco, in partnership with Concrete Jungle Foundation and Centre Fiers et Forts.
