« NETTLE DANCE » a été présentée dans le cadre de l'exposition « JACK FREAK PICTURES » de Gilbert & George, qui a été montrée à Berlin, Paris, Londres, Bruxelles, Salzbourg, Athènes et Naples de 2009 à 2010. L'élément pictural dominant de « JACK FREAK PICTURES » est l'Union Jack, un motif géométrique abstrait universellement connu et un symbole socialement et politiquement chargé. Gilbert & George eux-mêmes y occupent une place tout aussi importante, sous diverses apparences : dansant, grimaçant, hurlant, observant, attendant. Tantôt leurs corps semblent entiers, tantôt ils sont fragmentés ou contorsionnés. Invariablement, ils figurent à la fois comme sujet et objet, œuvre d'art et artiste ; ils sont des acteurs de la fresque picturale épique et complexe qu'ils ont créée.
