The Artist
Joan Cornellà
Joan Cornellà (b. 1981, Barcelona, Spain) is a Spanish artist, illustrator, and cartoonist known for his distinctive blend of surrealism, dark humor, and deceptively cheerful imagery. His instantly recognizable characters, rendered in a simple graphic style and vivid colors, inhabit absurd and often unsettling situations that turn everyday experiences into sharp observations of contemporary life.
Cornellà uses humor and satire to explore the darker sides of human nature, social conventions, and the contradictions of modern culture. His practice spans comics, painting, sculpture, animation, and illustration, with work exhibited internationally in cities including London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Seoul.
