Jeff Koons, l'un des artistes les plus importants au monde, réinterprète un détail de sa peinture à l'huile de 2008, Triple Popeye , une composition en couches peintes à la main représentant le personnage iconique de dessin animé, Popeye. On y voit le marin fictif serrant contre lui une boîte d'épinards, sa source de vie, et posant triomphalement au milieu de gestes colorés et d'un dessin au trait argenté réfléchissant qui suggère le mouvement. Popeye Skateboard, 2021, utilise un triptyque de skateboards comme support. « Popeye incarne l'image du "Je suis ce que je suis". C'est une sorte de symbole d'acceptation de soi, qui nous invite à nous accepter tels que nous sommes. Popeye a ses épinards. Les épinards lui confèrent sa force et sa puissance. C'est cela l'art. Jeff KOONS is an American artist whose work examines popular culture, often in the form of paintings and sculptures that transform everyday images and objects into works of art that engage the viewer. Most recognizable among these are his balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror-finish surfaces. 

Born in York, Pennsylvania in 1955; Jeff Koons studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1976. Since his first solo exhibition in 1980, Koons’ work has been shown in major galleries and institutions throughout the world. He lives and works in New York City.
