A New Chapter – Skateistan's global expansion

Until the start of August 2021, Skateistan had been running programs in three cities in Afghanistan, as well as in South Africa and Cambodia. But when the government fell, Skateistan had to suspend their programs in Afghanistan for the first time since 2009. This led Skateistan to rethink their strategy – focusing on increasing the number of Skate Schools around the world so they could reach more children, faster. THE SKATEROOM is proudly supporting Skateistan’s five-pronged approach to expansion. This expansion strategy is called ‘A New Chapter’, and intends to operate in 20 locations by the end of 2022. By that time, they will be reaching over 4,500 children per week, with a clear and concise focus on diversity and inclusion. By sponsoring Skateistan’s ‘A New Chapter’ with $50,000 in 2022, THE SKATEROOM is already facilitating new locations created by the organization’s ‘Skateistan in a Box’ tool. This flexible, local-first approach can be adapted, scaled and tailored for differing needs and locations. Skateistan is able to offer skateboarding and creative education at a grassroots level, in settings where permanent structures are difficult to build. You can follow Skateistan’s expansion live here.
