From time to time, two perfectly-poised gentlemen in characteristically dapper attire can be seen strolling through the streets of East London. Gilbert Prousch and George Passmore have been an artistic duo for almost six decades, brought together by fate and cosmic connection to form one visionary entity by the name of GILBERT & GEORGE.
Gilbert & George Collection
Life is Art
There is no distinction between the life and art of GILBERT & GEORGE. They refer to themselves as living sculptures, everything from their work to their attire being an intricate manifestation of their vision. The pair is constantly drawing from the emotions and occurrences observed in ordinary things around them, exploring the human condition and its relation to the city, society and even the metaphysical realm. With their disruptive work, they hope to challenge the public to their own reflection on life, art and existence.
It is safe to observe that, amongst a rich oeuvre of renowned artistic achievement, the most significant artwork of GILBERT & GEORGE is their profound bond. That of two observers and seekers-after-truth who traverse familiar and distant realms. Their singularity lies in their duality, and the world they have created together is its own artpiece, in which they are both participants and witnesses alike.
Disruptive Connection
The works of GILBERT & GEORGE are full of contrasts, eye-catching colors, traditional British iconography and images rooted in irony. The duo often proclaims they are anti-elitist, and their pieces (always referred to as sculptures, regardless of medium), are meant to question, disturb and unsettle the norm. It’s only right that we collaborate on an equally disruptive skateboard art collection.
This exclusive drop features five legendary artworks from different eras of the pair’s career. The collection includes two triptychs and two solo decks (each limited to 50). GILBERT & GEORGE have also created a one-of-one hand-signed edition of the ‘NINETEEN’ solo deck, uniquely shaped like a coffin to further emphasize the dark yet contradicting themes of the sepulchral nature of the artwork.
