Visual artist Korakrit ARUNANONDCHAI has designed a collection of skateboard editions made in collaboration with THE SKATEROOM. The project launches in partnership with the Kukje Gallery during Frieze Seoul 2023. Korakrit ARUNANONDCHAI (b. 1986) is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Thailand and currently residing and working between Bangkok and New York City.

Exploring Nostalgia for Unity

Inspired by a poetic excerpt from Korakrit ARUNANONDCHAI’s film Songs for living, 2021 (in collaboration with Alex Gvojic), the collection constitutes solo editions and triptychs of red and black stained veneers, metallic foils and UV prints, featuring the motifs of a golden sun rising above the horizon and mirror-like surfaces intended to reflect the holder. The artist also made five skateboard editions, which incorporate burnt remains of an abstract painting which he set aflame. The inspired mission of the collaboration is also materialized through providing direct support to the Sati Foundation. At least 10% of revenue will support at-risk youth in Thailand through empowerment initiatives, skill-building workshops and mental health counseling.

Mindfulness in Action

10% of the sales will support the SATI foundation. SATI is a grassroots non-profit founded in Thailand in 2013 that aims to improve healthcare and education for at-risk and underserved children and youth. SATI is a Buddhist Pali word which means “mindfulness'. The foundation believes in being mindful of the causes of the problems, as well as the solutions. SATI implements a two-fold model of prevention and treatment through the use of active learning workshops and livelihood programs for children and youths that provide a medium for expression, mindfulness, healing, education, and preventive healthcare. SATI focuses on empowering youths and exposing them to options that do not harm themselves or others. Projects range from mental health and sex education programs in underserved schools in Northern Thailand to counseling and occupational training for at-risk youths in central Bangkok.
