Because there is no sustainability without transparency…

At THE SKATEROOM, we know the value of clarity. Without you – our audience, our partners, our friends – understanding how our model works, we cannot expect you to join us and become part of it. That’s why we’ve created this page, where we go a little deeper into the impact we have on the world. That’s impact in terms of lasting social change, but also in terms of our environmental footprint. In both, we are dedicated to do better. It’s in our DNA.

ACTIVITY REPORT

2021 in Retrospect

Because there is no sustainability without transparency, every year we publish an Activity Report. In these pages you’ll find a rundown of the past year, who we worked with, what we created, and how it generated true, lasting social change around the globe.

B CORPORATION

B The Change

Certified B Corps are distinguishing themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business that builds an inclusive and sustainable economy. In 2019, we achieved the goal of becoming a B Corp, and in 2021 we proudly hold a score of 97.4% and we have been on a journey of self-improvement ever since. We continue to work towards improvement, and with the help of the B Impact Assessment, we have committed to improving our B Corp score by 5% each year.

CARBON NEUTREL

Compensating our footprint

Being “carbon neutral” means that – through a transparent process of calculating emissions, reducing those emissions and offsetting residual emissions – net carbon emissions equal zero. Since 2016, The Skateroom has compensated our entire yearly carbon footprint through the independent audit company, CO2logic and Vincotte (an international independent certification body). Our total emissions have varied in the past years, with increases and decreases. For this reason, we are actively working to improve our sustainable practices, especially within our supply chain, to reduce our carbon emissions every year as much as possible.

PRODUCTION & SUPPLY

Strength in the chain

We are eager to monitor and communicate our progress towards the implementation of better production chain practices. We are working on achieving greater transparency and becoming more sustainable. For the time being, we are happy to communicate that most of the wood used for our decks is FSC certified maple wood sourced from North America and Canada. We have also started in-house production in which we use ink with a Greenguard Gold certification which means it has low chemical emissions to ensure that the ink does not expose our team to harmful pollutants, which benefits our health and our environment.
