The Skateboards

The Skateboards

Jeremyville Art edition

The Skateroom has teamed up with Jeremyville as a part of The Skateroom’s first series dedicated to graphics and illustration – fields that have consistently inspired skate and DIY culture.

“The titles of the 4 boards, Yesterday, Today, Forever and Eternity, represent the 4 stages of our lives: struggle, resolution, growth and epiphany, and the overarching concept concerns itself with the answers that can come from positive action, discipline, vision, and endurance. So too with The Skateroom, they take a problem in our world and resolve it creatively, with lateral thinking and vision. They are on a very similar journey to the intention of my daily art practice, and I was instantly and passionately attracted to the aims of The Skateroom and this project, from the very start.” (Jeremyville)

Final kids Suli skatepark

Following The Skateroom’s business model, through our next collaboration The Skateroom w/ Jean Jullien, Jeremyville and Steven Harrington, we will donate 10% of the turnover of the sales of the editions to the NGO Make Life Skate Life for their latest project ‘Suli Skatepark’.

With the opening of the first skate park in Iraq three weeks ago, they kicked off a year-long volunteer-led skate program with the goal to make skateboarding available to everyone who wants to learn while encouraging the participation of girls and refugees.

Additionally, we will also send out 375 coloring books made by the artists to Skateistan for their ‘Skate and Create’ program in South Africa, Afghanistan, and Cambodia.

Girls skate in Suli

Suli Skatepark is an initiative inspired by a small motivated group of skaters in the city of Sulaymaniyah. The city is located in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of Northern Iraq, surrounded by several mountain ranges and known as the cultural capital of the Kurdish region.

The skatepark will provide youth from Sulaymaniyah and across the region a free, safe and accessible outlet for socializing and physical activity. A free of charge loaner system will be established so that all youth can have access to skateboarding equipment and safety gear to use at the skatepark, regardless of economic standing.
