“I think there is a responsibility for any artist to protect freedom of expression.”
– Ai Weiwei

When we approached Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei, we had little hope he would have time to work with us…
We were extremely honored and happily surprised when we got a positive response from his studio!

We gave the dissident artist ‘carte blanche’ to decline three of his artworks on skateboards.

The result is a mix of politically engaged messages combined with the equally strong meaning of the three artworks he decided to feature for this special collaboration for Skateistan.

Through this collaboration, we donated 15,000$ to Skateistan in Kabul in the name of the artist, as well as 20% of the sales from this limited edition on skateboards.

The equivalent to providing programs for up to 1300 students in Afghanistan for 2 weeks!

Ai Weiwei is a Chinese Contemporary artist and activist. As a political activist, he has been highly and openly critical of the Chinese Government’s stance on democracy and human rights.
