Black & Red,Andy HOPE 1930
The name Andy Hope 1930 acts more as a label rather than a name – a gateway that allows the artists to travel in different directions freely. The name Andy Hope is a blending of Andy Warhol and Dorian Hope, while 1930 represents an exciting year with a new form of illustration through comic books and the introduction of superheroes.
This choice in name intentionally represents Andy Hope’s entire body of work: stylistic clashes, distinct yet interwoven times and worlds, and plays on identities. The artist’s persona, much like his art, remains an enigma that plays along the outer border of his audience’s conception of reality.

Andy HOPE 1930
Andy Hope 1930 (born Andreas Hofer) is a German artist who draws inspiration from comic book superheroes, villains, dinosaurs, devils, spaceships, film noir, science fiction illustration, and forms of early Minimalism. Hope mixes these elements with artistic positions such as those of Kasimir Malevich, inducing a transformation within his creations from the grotesque to the intimate and restrained.
Hope considers the year 1930 as an interruption in time, an obstacle challenging the historical avant-garde in European modernity, amidst a series of social, political, and artistic crises. The ‘1930’ acts as a portal allowing Hope to assume the role of a time-traveler, pursuing and projecting a persona of alien modernity. Though he only adopted his name in 2010, Hope has been signing his work this way since the beginning of his career.
Through our collaboration with Andy Hope 1930, we donated $15,000 to Skateistan’s skate school in Mazar-E-Sharif, Afghanistan, along with an additional 20% of the sales proceed – the equivalent of providing 2 weeks of classes to 1300 students!
