Some artists are designing decks that challenge the skateboarding industry itself. Judy Chicago’s three editions for THE SKATEROOM feature thinly veiled references to female genitalia enhanced by pulsing, wave-like forms suggestive of erotic experience. The colors and motifs revisit Chicago’s seminal 1970s drawings, when she established herself as an artist challenging the male-dominated art world.
