Yes, you read that right. South African artist, Robin Rhode, will be in Brussels on 9th September to unveil his new The Skateroom editions at The Skateroom Gallery. So don’t miss out!
Three is the magic number. In this, our third collaboration with Robin Rhode, we once again unite the artist with award-winning international organization Skateistan under The Skateroom’s social entrepreneurship model. 10% of all revenue from this collection will go directly and without restriction to operations at the Johannesburg skatepark we helped build back in 2016.
The connection to Skateistan South Africa has always resonated with Rhode’s vision, which interplays his individual expressionism and urbanism, while calling into light broader socio-economic concerns. He is a master of illusion alongside, drawing on a rich range of historical and contemporary references to create his new collection. His own upbringing in South Africa has brought him into close contact with the world the young people at Skateistan’s skate school live in every day.
The stars of the Robin Rhode collaboration and upcoming event? An exclusive and limited edition comprising eight skateboard pieces, and hand-made editions available only at the event. During Brussels Gallery Weekend, one of the most important dates in the Belgian contemporary art calendar, the new collection will be presented by the artist himself at The Skateroom Gallery (54 rue Van Eyck – 1050 Brussels) on September 9th, with exhibition running until September 12th.
Reflecting the youth empowerment generated by Skateistan in South Africa, the event in Brussels will tell the story of youth empowerment which begins at the artist and ends at the social skate movements, like Skateistan South Africa, driving the truly impactful work they do everyday. The Skateroom invites you to attend the event, purchase the limited collection, and be a part of that story.
