Since the beginning of Summer, The Skateroom is leading a project in, with, and for Brussels. To bring this project to life, we worked with Belgian artists in two phases, inviting them to produce unique and original works of art on skateboards. Our ambition for the Bruxsel Project is to fund skate lessons, using sport, to empower unaccompanied minor refugees based in Brussels.
On the 5th of September, we unveil the second phase of our Bruxsel Project in collaboration with the Brussels Gallery Weekend. The works of 14 artists will be featured at the Vanderborght building (Rue de l’Ecuyer 50, 1000 Bruxelles) – Nel Aerts, Charlotte Beaudry, Martin Belou, Jana Cordenier, Hadrien du Roy, Michel François, Gaillard & Claude, Jurgen Ots, Sébastien Reuzé, Michael Van den Abeele, Els Vermang, Pieter Vermeersch, and Leen Voet.
By selling these works, we are raising funds for the lessons, provided by Skatoria (www.skatoria.be).
Through the first phase, seven artists took turns transforming our gallery space into their personal workshop, where they showcased the culmination of their work during vernissages. We welcomed Arnaud Kool, Sebal, Sozyone, Nicolas Boey, Polly Pollet, and Atelier Louves this summer and the last artist to take over the gallery is Denis Meyers.
Join us this weekend for the second phase and help us close the Bruxsel Project in style.
