2020 Highlights: What a year!
Thank you for your support in 2020
Despite everything, we realized six new artist collaborations and were able to donate around $250,000 to social skate projects around the world. We are getting very close to $950,000 in total since the launch of The Skateroom! We are very proud of what we accomplished so far and we can’t wait to kick off 2021 the right way. Thank you for supporting our vision!
6 New Artist collaborations
Jenny Holzer – For our second collaboration with the American artist Jenny Holzer, the political turmoil and unrest that revolves around the Trump presidency in the U.S. take center stage for a limited edition of art decks.
Yoshitomo Nara – Our first collaboration with renowned Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Nara’s work has a powerful impact when it comes to peace, human rights, and freedom. We teamed up with the LACMA for this one.
Raymond Pettibon – In this first collaboration, we released two surfer-themed limited editions. Through these visuals, viewers ride along with a counterculture hero who, perhaps, is the artist’s nearest proxy.
Peanuts Global Artist Collective – The Collective is comprised of André Saraiva x Mr. A, Nina Chanel Abney, AVAF, FriendsWithYou, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Rob Pruitt, and Kenny Scharf. For each artist of the collective, we launched a solo deck and a triptych edition limited to 100 per visual.
Colette, Mon Amour x DARCEL – To celebrate the documentary’s launch during the Colette, Mon Amour pop up in Tokyo, we released two limited editions of 50 designed by Darcel Disappoints. This exclusive collection was a huge success and is sold out.
Andy Warhol – In collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, we launched a limited edition of 100 featuring the popular Andy Warhol’s Skulls series in different colors.
Social impact highlights of 2020
Skateistan started building its fifth installation located in Bamyan, Afghanistan. We are supporting this great project with a $50,000 grant thanks to the collaboration with Raymond Pettibon, David Zwirner, the MoMA Design Store. This project will be completed in the summer of 2021.
Freedom Skatepark, the very first skatepark in Kingston, Jamaica is now open. This project, supported by The Skateroom, was realised by Concrete Jungle Foundation and more than 250 kids are already using this skating spot weekly.
What an honour to be on stage at the ChangeNOW Summit. We were truly inspired by the amazing minds and projects gathered at the Grand Palais. Proud to be a part of this gathering for positive impact. Looking forward to this years edition!
Our event on October 14th for the very first screening of the Oscar-winning documentary ‘Learning To Skateboard In A War Zone (If You’re A Girl)’ in Belgium was completely SOLD OUT! Thank you again for joining us and taking part in our movement.
2021 will be better, no doubt.
