FAQs

How can we help you?

Of course, every single skateboard in the world is produced with 8 holes – this is standard! Since we keep it real, this also applies to your art edition. Every single edition displayed on our website clearly illustrates these holes as well.

As a gentle reminder, these holes are also necessary for you to be able to hang your editions on the wall – either 2 holes for vertical editions, or 4 holes for horizontal artworks. Without them, this would simply not be possible.

While having an account allows you to easily keep track of your social impact through your orders, you are not required to have an account in order to make a purchase.

Certified B Corporations are leading a global movement to redefine success in business. By voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance, Certified B Corps are distinguishing themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business. Certified B Corps are competing to be not just ‘The Best in the World’, but ‘The Best for the World’.

At The Skateroom, we believe the human conscience is evolving to a point where concepts such as engaged consumption and responsible product manufacturing will soon become a norm. Our philosophy has been the same since day one, which is why becoming a certified B Corporation was not a question, but the logical next step in our evolution.

Our Social Impact is at the core of who we are and what we stand for. Our ‘5:25’ business model is simple: by unleashing human creativity and the fruits of artistic labor, we either contribute 5% of the turnover or 25% of the profit from of every sale – whichever amount is greater – to fund social projects dedicated to moving humanity forward. The final funds given to support these projects thus depend on various factors among which are the edition size, the price, the retailer’s margin, the royalties paid to the artists and foundations.

Since the start of our project in 2014, we have proudly funded more than $700,000 in support of various social projects empowering youth and children around the world.

Through our sales, we mainly finance social projects that use skateboarding as a tool to empower disadvantaged kids and youth anywhere in the world. Some artists have personal attachments to a specific project and therefore prefer that our collaboration supports their chosen cause, not necessarily related to skateboarding.

Historically, our biggest NGO partner is the award-winning social project, Skateistan.

Being well aware that the act of funding in the aid and development sector can not be sustainable, or could even have unintended negative consequences, we are especially careful to support sustainable projects generating positive impact, with the potential to reach systemic change.

For this, we implemented eligibility requirements for selection and keep track of the maintenance and sustainability of the projects supported. We do this by requesting activity reports every trimester as well as impact measurement reports, doing on-site visits, organizing regular calls and keeping close contact with the project leaders.

To offset our carbon emissions, we’ve decided to support the SAVINGS TREES PROJECT in Uganda so that 300+ families receive an efficient wood stove. Each stove helps reduce wood and charcoal consumption by up to 40% compared to other cooking methods and can save US $75 per year per family. Each wood stove contributes to reducing 1.4tonnes of CO2 per year – the equivalent of a return journey for one person from Brussels to Washington D.C.

The wood stoves also create a reduction in the emission of harmful pollutants that frequently cause respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia for children and women in Africa. UNICEF estimates that 2 million children die by pneumonia every year. Pneumonia is the single largest cause of child death and reducing indoor air pollution is one of the key prevention measures. These wood stoves will also help reduce local air pollution and thus reduce the impact of smoke on African children whilst allowing for The Skateroom “CO2 Neutrality”.

Freight IN represents 65% of the total emissions or 253 tCO2e, it is the highest source of our emissions. Our emissions linked with freight OUT holds the second position in term of CO2e emissions (112 tCO2e). The CO2 impact of business-travel accounts for 6% of our carbon footprint. Then energy and commuting-related emissions represent respectively 1% and 0.5% of our global impact.

As defined by the UK department of Energy and Climate Change, “carbon neutral” means that – through a transparent process of calculating emissions, reducing those emissions and offsetting residual emissions – net carbon emissions equal zero.

Since 2016, The Skateroom is CO2-Neutral certified through an external audit conducted by CO2 Logic.

The Skateroom makes art accessible to all by delivering WORLDWIDE.

We ship express using our preferred courier, UPS. Delivery usually takes 3-5 days after shipping. You will also receive a tracking number to make it easier to follow your purchase.

Taxes are calculated according to your shipping destination. Make sure you select your location to view the correct shipping costs.

Price listings will appear in EUR for countries within the European economic zone. All other territories will have a price listing in USD.

Some countries may require duty or import fees on your order when above a certain value. Our product prices and shipping costs do not include those fees as national policies are very different from one country to another. The payment of customs fees would be handled directly with the carrier.

Our delivery time starts from the moment an order is accepted and includes a 48-hour period where your items will be processed and dispatched. Please note, this can take longer during busy periods.

Once we process your order, you will receive an email containing a tracking number to track its progress online. If you are a registered customer, you can also follow your delivery by signing into your account and selecting ‘My Orders’ or directly on the UPS tracking page by clicking here.

Brexit is now effective since January 2021 and impacts the way we work with our dear UK customers:
– Delivery timings are exceptionally long at the moment and can take up to 3-4 weeks (while we’re still using UPS express).
– The government now imposes import fees for parcel value above 135£.
– Lastly, this 21% VAT that used to be applied on European goods is not required anymore so the price you’ll pay will be excluding VAT.

Yes, our operations are running smoothly and you can still shop.

Due to higher safety measures, your order may take a little longer to reach you.

The 14-day return policy is applicable on all products except limited hand-signed editions. As per our return policy, you may request a return within 14 days after receiving your order. Just contact us at info@theskateroom.com with your order number for the next steps.

We take the safety of our employees very seriously and have introduced a number of health and safety measures in line with guidelines provided by local authorities.

The sourcing of our boards is something we take very seriously. We work exclusively with Grade A Maple from certified sustainable forests in Canada.

We will provide you with a return label to send us back the purchased edition in the same condition as when received, with the original packaging and documentation.

As opposed to limited editions, open editions are limited in time rather in quantity. This means an indefinite number can be produced over the course of a licensed period.

CoA is short for certificate of authenticity. CoA’s are either signed by the artist or The Skateroom in order to validate the editions. It is specificied on each product page if a CoA is provided with the edition.

We provide you with everything you need to hang your boards up. It’s really easy to set up and you can find all the instuctions right here. Our team is also always ready to help if you have any additional questions.

These editions of artwork are intended for decorative purposes. While you could definitely skate on them if you wanted to, we provide you with one wall mount per deck to hang them on your wall, just like a painting.

Direct exposure to sunlight might result in discoloration and damage to your editions. To avoid this, we strongly suggest hanging your art-decks away from direct natural light.

The Skateroom makes art accessible to everyone by delivering WORLDWIDE.

Shipping estimates will be provided in the checkout process, once you enter your delivery address. Typically we process and ship your order within 48 hours (except for editions in pre-orders). You will get a tracking number to follow your shipment. It usually takes 3-5 additional business days to arrive.

** Shipping to the UK might experience some delay due to the Brexit.

“Printed Signature on the deck” refers to the printed signature of the artist included on the top-print. Most decks feature this printed signature, though some specified editions can also feature a hand signed artist signature.

Although we could be considered a social business as per our track record, since 100% of our profits were invested to support NGOs, the philosophy of the company is to behave as a leading example of the social enterprise category.

With a growing environmental, humanitarian, and economical crisis, we believe for-profit companies share a moral obligation to address these challenges as a united front. Achieving systemic change is possible by using their power as a force for good and through collaboration across different sectors. As a social enterprise, we are creating new relationships by engaging different stakeholders with complementary competencies: artists, art-buyers, and social projects empowering disadvantaged children.

This is how we use art for social impact.

Our motivation is to show that a company can do things differently: supporting communities, minimizing its environmental impact while being profitable in order to inspire other traditional businesses to follow the same path. This choice is driven by our inner conviction that a greater impact could be achieved by persuading the traditional organizations to adopt a more socially driven business model, rather than concretizing the existing but limited opportunities of social business in the economy. Our final aspiration is to create a suction effect that would lead to deep economic change and consciously engaged consumption.

A social enterprise is a mission-driven for-profit enterprise that considers two added and equally important objectives besides financial return: maximizing social impact while minimizing environmental footprint.
